I partnered with Kristina Grace of Spirit in Form to research, design, and launch a web presence for Carrara-based sculptor Robert Gove.
Research & Architecture | Storytelling & Visuals | Collector Outreach
Phase I - Research & Architecture
In Phase I, we researched and designed a website geared toward maximum usability and beauty, with minimal upkeep.
We organized and described Robert’s catalog of works, creating a searchable system for dimensions, descriptions, locations, and photos. Once the inventory was complete, we created additional photo assets, defined a sustainable site structure. Then, we talked through options for maintaining a blog or social media presence, based on team time and interest.
Phase II - Storytelling & Visual Presentation
We focused on presenting Robert’s sculpture in a way that aligned with his sense of scale, gesture, and quiet. That meant shaping the user experience around visual presence, minimal text, and a rhythm that matched the tone of his work.
We also brought in personal stories — including Robert’s decades in Carrara and his time at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center — as optional windows into the artist behind the work. He’s quite the storyteller, and we saw his energy and point of view as a powerful way to share his personality and joy.
One favorite: the tale of a rogue Vespa ride through the Carrara quarries — told, of course, in his own words. After wiping out on a marble-strewn curve, he describes pushing the scooter uphill when someone stopped and asked, incredulous, “You got that up there?!” That blend of tenacity, understatement, and wry humor shaped the tone we aimed for throughout the site. Phase III - Collector Outreach
We’re beginning to shape the next phase, informed by conversations with collectors and supporters. This loops back to the site’s foundation: Kristina had already begun outreach, and we anticipated evolving needs around collector access, new series, and behind-the-scenes stories.
We also explored options for a blog or social media presence early on — and while those pieces haven't been activated yet, we designed the site to support them when the time is right.
The current structure meets Robert’s immediate needs, but its flexibility allows for future refinement and growth.
